Photomicrograph of the starting material that consists of xylite of swamp cypress (Taxodioidea taxodium) under incident white light and oil immersion. This xylite sample is Middle Eocene in age. The cellular microstructure displays the cell walls consisting of textinite that surround infilling of the cell lumens. The bright spots consist of diamond powder remaining after the last polish.
