Bulk shortening calculated for each cross-section, based on the Schrattenkalk cross-section length (for the data, see Table 2). The highest shortening values occur in the western block, particularly in the northern part. This is consistent with the nature of the structures in the different structural domains. The eastern block has lower shortening values. The slightly higher shortening value of cross-section S12-2, is due to the presence of a tectonic window in the Hoher Kasten area
