Apparent exposure ages calculated from the final nuclide concentrations of the scenarios described in Fig. 2. The constant exposure scenario (a) yields identical exposure ages from each nuclide. The burial scenarios with or without erosion (b, c) are characterized by systematic deviations in apparent ages: compared to 10Be, ‘too low’ 14C ages indicate burial periods, ‘too high’ 36Cl ages point to erosion of the rock surface
