χ-profiles and χɛ error with different assumed base levels. Error is estimated for the case of a low steepness alluvial reach, not included in the standard analysis. The two steepnesses for the error assessment are ks,bedrock = 100 and ks,alluvial = 20. The alluvial steepness is lower therefore the error is always negative. The error is smaller with the elevated base level. The horizontal shift between the figures is described in Online Resource 1
