The grey zone shows the DQB with a dark grey zone demarcates the dark grey shale at the P–E boundary. Note, the positive excursion in the Al-normalized P and Ba values in the lower part of the DQB at W. Matulla section and in the Mn/Al, Ca/Al and Mg/Al values in the upper parts of the DQB at G. Mekattub and W. Feiran sections. The Al-normalized V, Cr, Ni, Cu and Zn display relatively similar vertical trend. The lithostratigraphic units and calcareous nannofossil biozones are shown in Fig. 1
