Sample of quartz-monzodiorite, the predominant reservoir rock of the Basel-1 site at 4900 m depth; (width of sample ~ 3.5 cm). The coarse grained undeformed plutonic rock contains plagioclase, alkali feldspar, quartz, biotite, hornblende and accessories. Modal plagioclase ~ 55 vol.%, XAn ~ 0.34 (rock composition given in Table 3)
